Westside Robotics is a group of FIRST Robotics teams with students from the West Lafayette public school system. FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 461, Westside Boiler Invasion, was founded in 1999 as a student-run team with 18 students from two local high schools. Westside Boiler Invasion is now a 50 student team mentored by local professionals and college students from Purdue University. FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Team 4366, CyberDevils, FTC Team 6518 TechnoDevils, and the numerous FIRST LEGO League (FLL) RDP teams were later added to the Westside Robotics family.
In our 18 years as a high-performing team, we have won 40 awards, competed at dozens of competitions, hosted hundreds of community outreach events and demonstrations, and inspired countless students. We need your help to continue inspiring countless students and making a significant impact in our community. Our teams need financial support to fund robot parts, rent, outreach materials, shop equipment, tools, computers, travel, and media production equipment. In order to continue making a positive impact, we are counting on the support of our alumni and community.
Westside Robotics is in need of support for specific materials and resources. When you click on the "Go Donate!" button below, you can choose to have your donation contribute towards a specific item that we need for our shop. A few example of these needs are detailed here.
We are in need of some more large-scale metalworking tools - band saws, a large drill press, and a CNC mill, for example - to give our students more hands-on learning opportunities & to enable us to fabricate parts in-house.
We don't have a whole lot of places for people to sit. We have acquired a conference table and a set of chairs, but some stools to go along with our homemade workbenches would be a great addition to our shop and meeting areas.
We're mostly relying on our students and mentors to bring their own cameras or use their phones to capture photos and videos at events. A new camera for the team would help us train more students in the arts of photography and video production.
Likewise, a high quality photo & video editing workstation & the software to go with it will enable our students to more effectively create engaging multimedia content.
The laptops that we use for outreach events, like our merit badge workshops and summer camps, are 10+ years old and literally starting to fall apart. Getting some new laptops would go a long way to helping make those programs run smoother and give us more ways to engage with our younger students
Our LEGO robot kits are also 10+ years old and are starting to show their age. Having access to updated kits would jump-start getting our FIRST LEGO League teams up and running again.
